Summertime and no rest for the wicked
At Midcoul everything is growing at pace including the weeds !
Weeding is major part of growing carrots succesfully otherwise they would be crowded out. On Organic farms this has to be done mechanically or by hand as chemicals cannot be used. So its that time to go NUTS which is our unusual weeding contraption allowing our summer season staff to lie down on the job and get their hands dirty.
Its not only the carrots that are growing, the lambs are getting big and the sheep have all been gathered and shorn. The cows are in the pasture enjoying the clover. The grass has been growing too and is being cut ready to make hay and silage. Unfortunately the timing of the wet weather has flattened some of the long grass.
The early potatoes are also very nearly ready to be harvested.
There is another exciting new arrival on the scene here at the farm a puppy called Cullen who also seems to enjoy organic veg !
