Carbon Footprint Analysis
TIO are going to reap the benefits from review of their carbon footprint.
Civil Engineering student Kenny MacFadyen has just completed his study into our carbon footprint and how we can make improvements in the future.
Kenny was selected through the Environmental Placement Programme which gives Scottish Businesses access to students to carry out research projects on their behalf.
Kenny used a survey previously done by The Carbon Trust and his own research with all teams within TIO’s base a Forres to produce a summary report with recommendations to take forward to ensure we will meet our environmental objectives and reduce our carbon footprint - arranging meetings and visits with over 20 companies to advise on practical environmental solutions.
He will leave behind a legacy including a new TIO team called “Eco Warriors” who will continue the work into reducing our environmental impact. If you’d like to become involved in this, speak to one of the Eco Warrior’s (Ed, Charlie, Ann, Kelly, Lou, Mal, Alex, Sophie). We are taking forward three projects from the work that he did: - replacing the pack house lighting with low energy units: changing paper towels for Dyson air blades in the toilets and increasing our recycling, meaning that we should reduce our carbon foot print by nearly 20% - saving 130 tonnes of carbon a year.
Kenny from Glasgow, enjoyed his time at Forres where he spent his spare time learning to swim, climbing Ben Nevis and introducing his friends to the area! We wish Kenny all the best for the future and hope we have given him an environmental footprint to give the edge ahead of the rest! BBC Scotland were interested in this story and after recent filming at Tio we will shortly be featured on the BBC’s farming program ‘Landward’.
In recognition for the work at Tio Kenny won the Environmental Placement Programme National Final at the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
Congratulations Kenny!
